چکیده

Excitation spectra of chlorophyll fluorescence from intact rye leaves were registered at dif ferent steps of the induction of photosynthesis after dark adaptation. Analysis of these spectra indicates that at least two processes related to spectroscopic features are responsible for a flu orescence quenching. The first one, active during the first 100 s of illumination, was interpret ed to consists in an overall decrease of the fluorescence quantum yield of antenna pigments and chlorophylls, in particular close to the reaction centers. The second type of a fluorescence decrease (between 100 s and 300 s o f illumination) was found to be in large extent related to decrease of the rate of an excitation energy transfer between accessory xanthophyll pigments and chlorophylls emitting fluorescence. This latter molecular mechanism is discussed as being related to violaxanthin availability to de-epoxidation in the xanthophyll cycle.

The Fluorescence Spectra of Red Algae and the Transfer of Energy from Phycoerythrin to Phycocyanin and Chlorophyll

1. The fluorescence spectra of the alga Porphyridium have been recorded as energy distribution curves for eleven different incident wave lengths of monochromatic incident light between wave lengths 405 and 546 mmicro. 2. In these spectra chlorophyll fluorescence predominates when the incident light is in the blue part of the spectrum which is strongly absorbed by chlorophyll. 3. For blue-green ...

Relationship between the Absorption and Emission Spectra and the "Red Drop" in the Action Spectra of Fluorescence In Vivo.

The Stepanov equation, relating the intensity of emission, f(e)(v), at a given frequency, and that of absorption, k(v), at the same frequency, is applied, in its modified form (see equation 3 in text) to suspensions of Chlorella, Porphyridium, and Anacystis and to chlorophyll solutions. This application can reveal whether the yield of fluorescence, Phi(v), is constant, or changes with frequency...

Using Chlorophyll Fluorescence to Study Photosynthesis*

Each quantum of light absorbed by a chlorophyll molecule rises an electron from the ground state to an excited state. Upon de-excitation from a chlorophyll a molecule from excited state 1 to ground state, a small proportion (3-5% in vivo) of the excitation energy is dissipated as red fluorescence. The indicator function of chlorophyll fluorescence arises from the fact that fluorescence emission...

In vivo chlorophyll a fluorescence transients and the circadian rhythm of photosynthesis in gonyaulax polyedra.

The intensity of chlorophyll a fluorescence during the early part of fluorescence induction at 0, initial fluorescence, and P, peak fluorescence, was higher during the day phase of the circadian cycle than during the night phase in continuous light (LL) conditions and was positively correlated with the rate of oxygen evolution. The circadian rhythm in fluorescence in LL persisted in the presenc...

The effect of spraying of methyl jasmonate and 24-epi-brassinolide on photosynthesis, chlorophyll fluorescence and leaf stomatal traits in black mustard (Brassica nigra L.) under salinity stress

Methyl jasmonate and Epi-brassinolide as plant growth regulators have significant biological effects on plant growth, including increased tolerance to salt stress in plants. In this study, the effects of salinity stress and its interaction with methyl jasmonate and Epi-brassinolide on chlorophyll concentration, rate of photosynthesis, transpiration, stomatal conductance and resistance and chlor...
